Wow. A Self Published Author.

Groundbreaking.

Welcome to my, S Rin Volpi’s, author website!

Scroll down and let me overshare.

Ok, ok, ok. What’s my deal?

TLDR: I worked in games over a decade. I wrote a novella about it. Please read it.

But first let me tell you all about myself.

If you were to check my Linkedin (no! wait! don’t leave!), you’ll see I’ve been working in videogames since 2014. My role is Tech Anim / Rigger depending on where I was and who you ask. I got to work on titles like Dragon Age: Inquisition, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Star Wars Battlefront II (specifically the Single Player), Star Wars: Squadrons, and the Dead Space remake.

For many years, I have written for fun. My novella about game dev was the first thing that I really felt the urge to inflict upon more people. Due to an unreasonable amount of follow-through and the disposable income of a working professional with no children, I decided to self publish.

And I finally did it! I am very (/s) disappointed there’s not a magic “Publish” button; this must be how people feel when there isn’t a magic “make the cloth simulate real good” button.

In my spare time, I also volunteer around Montreal a lot these days. (Take that, depression!)

Technically Nobody

A Game Dev Novella

Starting work in games in 2013, our protagonist explores and navigates a slowly maturing and rapidly growing dominated industry as a young woman. Technically Nobody goes through the trials and triumphs of an individual contributor’s first 10 years in games, learning to self advocate, unlearning insecurities, and relearning how to move forward.

If you know me, you will see a lot of me in this book. They say write what you know and boy I sure did. However, I promise, the main character is not me; among other things, the main character is probably more competent with colour theory. (That’s why I commissioned the amazing Angela Chiarelli to do my cover)

The events and people are amalgamations of the game dev I know. My hope is that fellow game devs will feel seen, people interested in game dev will learn about it from a less commonly shared perspective, and young people struggling to find their footing in a corporate world might enjoy a relatable laugh.

If you like the cover, check out Angela’s stuff. After years of working on virtual booties, I’m thrilled to have a butt on the cover of my first published piece. https://angelachiarelli.portfolio.site/
